Pardoner

Bay Area’s best kept secret, Pardoner, builds upon an already strong foundation of '90s-inspired guitar work and waxing cynic lyrics on their latest, delivering a grab bag of first class indie rock, punk, and pop—not to mention lyrics that will make you feel personally attacked. Seriously, how these guys tap into whatever music hipster zeitgeist is happening at any given time is humbling and makes me laugh out loud, which is not something I can really say about most new music! I’m sure these sort of observations come from the band’s personal experience, so you can forgive yourself for whatever make-me-cool-quick psyop you’ve bought into (Carhartt pants, LSD, and Stereolab included). The music’s point however is not to shame, but to instead remind you that being an artistic, musically-inclined type needs no barrier of entry. The result is a pretty life-affirming sentiment throughout. If you were to skip the lyrics on this entirely (not advised), you’d still be blessed with genuinely great and catchy songwriting, featuring the always bonkers riffage and extrememly tight chemistry that Pardoner have become well known for.
