Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989)
Kazuki Omori
Godzilla vs. Biollante was the first Godzilla film I ever watched and it was a big part of my childhood. It's certainly in my top 5 favorite Godzilla movies list and my favorite of the Heisei Era (1984-1995). Biollante is the strangest and most complex kaiju in the entire Godzilla franchise in my opinion. I think it's wonderful that Criterion decided to put it out and I wonder if they will put out other Heisei era Godzilla films in the near future. Now you don't have spend $300 on that one out of print Blu-Ray. Darn, I should've sold my copy! Nah, I'm just kidding. Never! I need every edition out there! I love this movie and I love Godzilla. Thank you.

V/H/S Beyond (BLU)
I really dig the V/H/S franchise. Compared to the rest of the V/H/S movies aesthetically, V/H/S Beyond is probably the least VHS quality looking. This is okay because we're trying new things and we're essentially going beyond the VHS and into the High Definition. There is good amount of aliens in this one and zombies and some other weird creatures. We're going out there! That being said, at its core, it's still a V/H/S movie because of its creepy, nerve-racking tone, jump scares and gore. And there's still a decent amount of VHS quality aesthetic just not as much as its predecessors. The V/H/S movies are always good scary fun. Just don't eat while you watch this one.

Hardware (1990)
Richard Stanley
Richard Stanley's "Hardware" marks his debut feature film and is now released in 4K Ultra HD. It is important to note that the collector's edition Blu-ray Disc will be region B, while the 4K disc is region-free. If you appreciate the concept of a murderous robot within the realm of cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic cinema then you're gonna love this. Fun stuff! Cool soundtrack! Lemmy from Motorhead shows up at one point in the movie. This is what you want. This is what you get. Enjoy.

River's Edge (1986) (BLU)
Tim Hunter
This is the second time River's Edge has been released on Blu-ray. What would you do if your friend killed somebody? If you look closely, the dead body blinks a couple times at a certain point in the film. The Blu-Ray helps with noticing that fun detail. Probably my favorite Crispin Glover performance. Once again, not really any special features but just watch it if you haven't already. It's great.

The Substance (2024)
Coralie Fargeat
I'm a big fan of the way this movie looks. It's ideal for me as I love extreme close ups and practical effects. I think it's great when audiences get grossed out at the movies. This work of art is a lot of fun and it's nice to see body horror make up effects in the mainstream as opposed to 110% CGI. Visually, it's fantastic and highly entertaining.

Drop Nineteens
This is the first music they ever wrote! Finally on vinyl, it's their first 2 demos that they decided to scrap and they put out Delaware instead. Legendary low-fi shoegaze, in the vein of early Slowdive, finally seeing the light of day. Seriously, this is the real deal.

Solitude
Patrice Scott
Certified Detroit deep soldier Patrice Scott comes through on his own Sistrum imprint with his first solo 12" in years, and it was worth the wait.
"Solitude" features a heartbreaking piano solo, and a mean bassline gluing the tense chord work together, with relentless undulating percussion. An instant classic IMO. B side is good too.

You Can't Unsee Me (LP)
The Abstract Eye
LA based electro luminary Gabriel Reyes aka Gifted & Blessed returns to his The Abstract Eye moniker, a personal favorite since 2011's "Cool Warm Divine" EP, with a new double LP.
GB has been doing his thing for quite a while now, and while more recent releases have often taken a more experimental turn, here we see a bit of a return to a more dancefloor orientation while retaining his unique balance of palpable consciousness, spirituality, and sensuality rarely heard in any form of modern electronic music.

Faded Caprice (LP)
E.R.P.
Gerard Hanson, better known as Convextion is an artist that has earned their status among the most revered names in techno and electro.
On "Faded Caprice" as E.R.P. (Event Related Potential for the uninitiated) Hanson's basslines and arrangements shine on this double LP that deftly blends elements of both his more dub techno and hardcore electro production styles. Essential listening for fans of music with atmosphere that doesn't neglect attitude.

For Those Who Chant (LP)
Luis Gasca
Great to see this record reissued. In the before times when the digital overlords did not choose everything for you. The artwork on this album may have spoken to you. And what a find. Easily my favorite “Santana” record. The vibe reminds me of (El Sonido Nuevo 1966) with an added seventies spiritual jazz feel. It’s both down to earth & far out.

This is actually the only band I could find where the internet does Not describe the music as (shoegaze). However if you are too sober to find Khruangbin interesting and like a little more James Bond in your pop groove check it out. For me it’s a nice blend of Baris Manco & Sterolab.

Historically this brief time between the start of the Atomic Era and end of the Analog Age will mostly be forgotten, bleached by AI’s lack of data sets. For us raised totally free range there will never be anything more real.
