Marshall Crenshaw (LP)

Marshall Crenshaw
This is a reissue of Marshall's debut album from 1982. It's pretty much a perfect pop album, chock full of catchy hip tunes. Some of my many favorites are "There She Goes Again," "Someday Someway," "Girls," "I'll Do Anything," "The Usual Thing" and Soldier Of Love." It also has a pleasing art deco-y cover! Read more

Live At the Ryman (LP)

Charley Crockett
Charley is an enigma. He is the face of new roots country music, yet does not fit the normal profile of a star. He's not an especially great singer or guitar player, or have a pretty face. What he has is great instincts for the music and he writes pretty good songs. He also has put together a kickass band featuring great steel guitar from Nathan Fleming. On this double album he plays some of his originals, my faves being "The Valley," "Just Like Honey," "Trinity River," "Odessa" and "Hard Times." Plus he plays some cool covers like Paycheck's "Jukebox Charlie" that he nails, plus an interesting choice that totally works, "Jamestown Ferry." This is a great introductory album if you don't know him, and if you do, all your favorite tunes are here. Read more
