The 00:35 long intro track immediately sold me on this one. It sounds like an 80's VHS tape beginning theme of a workplace instructional video. The rest of the album has a similar vibe like this could be playing in the background of Severance or the Backrooms as people are walking around these liminal office buildings. How could I not include this album on my list?? It was THE most anticipated album of 2026 and I think it delivered! It’s definitely a much different sounding album compared to BoC’s previous releases, but it is still very much them: spooky electronica that sounds like a fever dream. The day the album dropped, I listened to it TWICE in a row uninterrupted in a pitch black room. Admittedly I was initially unsure of how I felt about the album’s direction… but I couldn’t put it down. It was literally the only thing I listened to for 5 days straight. Last year Geordie Greep delivered a stellar debut but this year was Cameron Picton’s turn. Unlike Geordie’s grandiose prog rock samba swagger, My New Band Believe takes on a more subdued chamber folk sound; essentially the polar opposite of his former bandmate.
