Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s The Kid is a vibrant, eclectic journey into experimental sonic territory. Fusing elements of exotica, classical, and techno music, the album feels like a very cohesive, melodic sound collage. There’s the sense of freedom, of lawlessness found in the best of that genre, but there’s also a unified sense of purpose that allows the album to span the distance between the experimental and electronic genres. The Kid is like a travelogue to a lush, spacey new world.
