Alabama Shakes sound better than ever on I Must Be Dreaming. Sure, you can chalk that up to this being the beloved band's first new record in over a decade. But there's also the warmth that emanates from Brittany Howard's rich voice, the dreamy throwback melodies that sound like they come from the swingin' '60s or the grooved out '70s. Listening to this album feels like getting a long, life-affirming hug, and indeed the album's title has a bit of a double meaning: it's both about the "WTF" nature of the world we're living in and the immense beauty of life despite it all. On this album, Alabama Shakes reminds us to feel, yearn, hope, and yes, dream.
