Wasted On The Dream (LP)
JEFF the Brotherhood
Amoeba Review

JEFF The Brotherhood’s Wasted on the Dream is the perfect soundtrack to a summer kickback. The band strums though power-pop riffs laden with sludgey distortion and glammy solos, blending Weezer-esque melodicism with ’70s proto-metal a la Motorhead on tracks like “Black Cherry Pie.” It’s fun to get lost in their cloud of smoke, but it’s also a breath of fresh air when the band kicks things up with a surf-rock beat on “Mystified Minds,” and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino makes like Busy Phillips in “Freaks and Geeks” on the awesome “In My Dreams,” offering a cool, stoner-girl counterpart to brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall’s dude-ism. Some of their sounds may jibe a little awkwardly, like the Sabbathy proto-metal riffs of “Melting Place” next to a sugary singalong like “Coat Check Girl,” but if you’re down with all of their sounds, Wasted on the Dream never hits a false note. The duo’s eighth album plays to all of their strengths confidently and delivers song after song of stoner-rock goodness. Light it up and tune in.
