Valerie June's distinctive voice croons and roars on "Call Me A Fool," a swooning track that represents the overall wistful atmosphere of her new album. The Moon And Stars: Prescriptions For Dreamers is ethereal and much closer to chamber-pop than what June has been known for, but there are strong elements of soul and gospel woven into these intricate, sometimes delicate ballads, for example on the opener, "Stay." The new sound is an interesting contrast with June's rootsy, sometimes gritty voice.
