Once J. Cole announced The Fall-Off would be his final album, the buzz was guaranteed. Fortunately, like most of his oeuvre, it's a fascinating and gorgeous listen. The beats are lush and dynamic; some are hauntingly beautiful. Cole weaves in homages to classic hip-hop tracks, gets introspective while looking at his own career introspective, and invites a star-studded galaxy of collaborators (Erykah Badu, Future, Morray, Petey Pablo, PJ, Burna Boy, Tems). A solid and satisfying listen, it's a fitting send-off for a modern great.
