Terrestrials (CD)
POND
Amoeba Review
On Terrestrials, Australia's Pond wanted to move beyond their reputation for fuzz and Pink Floyd-esque psych. Instead they embraced a distinctly post-punk sound, with influences like Sisters of Mercy and Magazine. It's probably no surprise then that these songs lean towards the melancholic and moody, with elements of synth pop, new wave, and yes...a bit of woozy psychedelia. And boy, do they do it well. Terrestrials is filled with earworms that are downbeat but enjoyable, smart and occasionally droll. Who knew one of the best albums of the '80s would come out in 2026?
