Imagine Blue Cheer fronted by Karen O and you’re halfway to Deap Vally, an L.A. power blues duo that tears shit up with their debut LP, Sistrionix. Singer/guitarist Lindsay Troy’s guitar bends and Julie Edwards’ earthshaking beats hit like asteroids on songs like apocalyptic jam “End of the World.” The ladies’ subject matter pretty much covers being young badass heartbreakers, ending “Walk of Shame,” a sloppy ode to gettin’ off and getting back on the road, with the consolation, “I could get breakfast with you.” Troy’s sandpapered, elastic voice and raunchy lyrics work to great effect on songs like “Bad for My Body,” a Runaways-style song about being bad and liking it with an irresistible attitude and addictive stomp. “If our mothers only knew the trouble that we get into,” Edwards sings. Everyone and their mother will should know, now that Sistrionix has hit.
