Seeker is an appropriate name for Mikal Cronin’s latest. On this album, Cronin ventures into darker territory, his songwriting still tight as hell but his interests slightly more intense. Lyrical preoccupations include death and rebirth, the search for answers and the quest for peace. The music, of course, contains an accompanying urgency and edge. Seeker is a record that works on many levels: the tunes here are just plain strong, well-written rock ’n’ roll jams, but there’s a profundity and an intelligence just beneath the surface that bequeaths each song with a rare, surprising power.
