Ricochet is the first album in five years from Snail Mail. It was worth the wait. The melodies are gorgeous, a vibrant combination of '90s alt rock, shoegaze, and modern indie rock. The lyrics are thoughtful and sometimes quite raw, with themes of anxiety and acceptance, the passage of time, the baked-in fear that everything you love will slowly slip away. If that sounds intense, fear not because the album is buoyed by brilliant, upbeat, hypnotic choruses and a sense of beauty in the everyday.
