Amoeba Review

Kevin Morby's Little Wide Open is a love letter to the Midwest. It's also a magnifying glass on the tensions, dangers, and simple beauties of his years growing up in Kansas. He's interested in the everyday musicality of the country, the chirping of cicadas, the distant sound of a passing train, the ominous, sharp howl of a tornado siren. Produced by Aaron Dessner of The National (who also takes on various instrumentation), the album features contributions from Justin Vernon, Katie Gavin, Lucinda Williams, Amelia Meath, Andrew Barr, and Meg Duffy. Little Wide Open is tender and pastoral, powered by deep emotions and a contemplative view of the loveliness in the small things.
