Daughter From Hell (CD)
Gracie Abrams
Amoeba Review
Gracie Abrams' Daughter from Hell will delight fans. The choruses are big and bold...so are the emotions. Yet there's an intimacy to Abrams' vocals that feels confessional and raw, like reading a diary or eavesdropping on someone pouring their heart out. Abrams teams up with musician/producer Aaron Dessner (The National, Taylor Swift) and collaborates with indie darling Bon Iver and folk rock mainstay Marcus Mumford. These partnerships complement Abrams' maximalist bedroom pop tendencies; the songs are sweetly pretty as a spring day and dramatic as a mid-summer thunderstorm. A dreamy, anthemic, lovely album.
