F1: The Movie (BLU)

Joseph Kosinski

Spectacular racing sequences highlight this breakneck drama that focuses on Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a once-great Formula One driver who gets another shot at glory when he's tapped by an old friend (Javier Bardem) to join his F1 team. Hayes proves that he hasn't lost his touch, but he'll still have to face the injuries that sidelined his career in the '90s while also dealing with a cocky and ambitious young teammate (Damson Idris).

Better Broken (CD)

Sarah McLachlan

Sarah McLachlan returns with her first album of new material since 2014's Shine On . Better Broken is here to remind us that the Canadian artist's distinctive voice is as lovely as ever and her songwriting just as solid. The title track is a soulful, slightly funky song with a subtle hook in the chorus. "Gravity" is a ballad with romantic strings but it features a stirring melody that keeps it from becoming sleepy. Katie Gavin joins her on "Reminds Me" which offers a gentle twang and a sweetly uplifting chorus.

Baby Man (CD)

Fruit Bats

Baby Man is the sparse, contemplative, and lovely new album from Fruit Bats. Eric D. Johnson takes his sound in another direction with this release, accompanied only by piano, guitar, or banjo (with the occasional synth flourish). The result is what he calls "minimalist maximalism" — a surprisingly appropriate description for these good old-fashioned barebones compositions with big, big emotional impact. Baby Man has a timeless sound with intriguing lyrical imagery and a real sense of the romance of simply being alive.

Alfredo 2 [180 Gram Vinyl] (LP)

Freddie Gibbs

Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist join forces once more for Alfredo 2 . The original Alfredo , released back in 2020, garnered a Grammy nomination so anticipation is high for the latest savvy and stylish outing from the duo. The good news: Alfredo 2 is just as hot. Guest appearances from Anderson .Paak, Larry June, and JID add to the smart lyrical flows and sizzling production. A must-hear and a late contender for album of the summer.

Belong (CD)

Jay Som

Jay Som's Belong is an exquisite collection of hazy, dreamy indie pop. The LA-based artist floats seamlessly from anthemic electronic pop to wistful emo to simmering, lovestruck indie rock. Guest vocals from Jimmy Eat World’s Jim Adkins, Hayley Williams, Soft Glas, and Lexi Vega of Mini Trees work nicely with Jay Som's yearning vocals and irresistible hooks. Belong feels brave and lovely in its vulnerability, and defiant in its punk-influenced guitar melodies.

Cover Girl [Pink Vinyl] (LP)

Lady Wray

Lady Wray's Cover Girl is spectacular and soulful. The singer has a voice like no other and an ability to blend the lush sounds of past decades into something that feels fresh and delicious. Gospel elements work with old school '90s, sugar sweet '60s, and funky '70s soul and disco sounds. Uplifting, lively, and brilliant.

Bath Time [Black Ice/Orange/Blue Splatter Vinyl] (LP)

Brenda

Melbourne, Australia’s Brenda (aka Hudson Whitlock) presents a suite of heartbreaking, cinematic indie-soul ballads and introspective lyricism delivered in a sincere, delicate falsetto. Brenda encompasses the left-field soul sensibilities for which Whitlock has come to be recognized in cult instrumental groups Surprise Chef, Karate Boogaloo, and The Pro-Teens.

Pantheon (CD)

Dance Gavin Dance

Sacramento virtuosos Dance Gavin Dance return with their 11th studio album and first to feature new frontman, Andrew Wells. After two decades of fusing rock, pop, funk, post-hardcore, and metalcore, Pantheon shows the band continues to innovate and push musical boundaries like few others can. To wit, the album features a guest appearance by funk legend George Clinton.

Easier Said Than Done (CD)

Pool Kids

Florida emo-pop-punkers Pool Kids return with album number three, Easier Said Than Done . Razor-sharp riffs, assertive, in-your-face vocals, and a shimmering sheen of production are present throughout the album. Songs like “Last Word” begin as a heartfelt pop song, then explode in a supernova of complex rock while still managing to keep a poppy brightness to it.

Nobody 2 (BLU)

Timo Tjahjanto

Bob Odenkirk returns as Hutch, an overworked assassin who just needs a break, in this bare-knuckle action-thriller. After deciding to take his family to a tourist town for some fun in the sun, a minor encounter with local bullies yanks the family into the crosshairs of an unhinged, blood-thirsty crime boss (Sharon Stone), who is determined to derail his relaxation.

Back To Life (CD)

Hinder

Hinder returns with more gritty alt-rock anthems on their latest, Back to Life . The band sounds more upbeat, resilient, and essential than ever. You've got angst-ridden songs about disappointment, loss, and struggle, sure. But you've also got a good amount of songs about perseverance, personal growth, and holding on despite hard times. If you're looking for melodic hard rock with catchy-as-hell choruses and an eclectic blend of moving ballads and riff-heavy stompers, this one's for you.

Odessey And Oracle [Orchid Color Vinyl] (LP)

The Zombies

The Zombies' 1968 classic album, featuring the seminal track "Time of The Season," has just been remastered from the band's original mono mix. This is the first time the mono mix has been available since its original British release and for the first time ever in the U.S. Pressed on indie exclusive orchid color vinyl, the new edition also includes new liner notes from David Fricke. It's a fitting tribute to this psych-pop masterpiece that continues to gain new fans today.
