Justin Townes Earle is a singer/songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. The son of Steve Earle and named after his father's friend, musician Townes Van Zandt, Justin Townes Earle began performing at a young age. As a teen he played in two bands: a rock band called The Distributors and a ragtime/bluegrass band called The Swindlers. He also toured with his father as a keyboard and guitar player. However, Justin grappled with a drug addiction (something with which his father was also familiar), and it ultimately caused him to be fired from his father's band.
After sobering up, Justin focused on creating music. He self-released the Yuma EP in 2007, a combination of blues, country, and rock. After signing to Bloodshot Records, he released his first full-length, The Good Life, in 2008. His second full-length, Midnight At The Movies, was released in 2009. Also in 2009, Justin Townes Earle was part of The Big Surprise Tour with Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, Old Crow Medicine Show, and The Felice Brothers. With a heavy touring schedule, Justin has performed at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest, the Chicago Country Music Festival, Americana Music Awards, South By Southwest, Bonnaroo, and the Grand Ole Opry.
Justin Townes Earle's third album, Harlem River Blues, is set to be released on September 14, 2010.
