Ice Cube (born O'Shea Jackson Sr.) is an American rapper, actor, and writer. His music career began in 1984 with the hip-hop group C.I.A.; after the group disbanded, Cube formed N.W.A. with Dr. Dre, Arabian Prince, and Eazy-E. The group would go on to become gangsta rap legends, dropping classic albums like Straight Outta Compton (1988). Ice Cube and N.W.A. parted ways in 1989 and Cube struck out on his own as a solo artist, making a mark with smart, sharp socio-political albums AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (1990) and Death Certificate (1991).
After the release of his second LP, Ice Cube transitioned to acting, drawing accolades for his work in '91's Boyz n the Hood. He then went on to write and star in the Friday films: Friday (1995), Next Friday (2000), and Friday After Next (2002). Other film credits include Barbershop, Ride Along, and XXX. He served as producer on 2015's biographical N.W.A. film Straight Outta Compton. Over the course of his career, Ice Cube has managed to balance his work in the film and music worlds, regularly releasing critically-acclaimed West Coast hip-hop albums for the past three decades. His latest is 2018's Everythang' Corrupt.
