Amoeba Review

Weezer have earned it. They're calling their twentieth studio album simply Weezer (Gold Album), and why not? It's an album about the phrase "stay gold" aka getting back to a sense of wonder, which the band does deftly in these songs. The album feels like a nice summation of everything remarkable they've done in their storied history together. The band gets tongue-in-cheek as they look back on their early career and crack wise about writing music to please moneymen on "CEO." They get contemplative and emotional on "We Might as Well Be Strangers," which features Wednesday. On the Gold Album, Weezer balances their '90s throwback sound with a contemporary indie rock turn that keeps things fresh and invigorating. Very fun. Very Weezer.
