The Johnny Cash Show (LP)
Johnny Cash
Amoeba Review

Okay, do your best to track this down. It’s a crucial and significant part of Johnny Cash’s discography for any number of reasons. The Johnny Cash Show ran from 1969 to 1971, and it was a landmark broadcast for any number of reasons. Sure, it featured some feeble-minded Network BS, like the obligatory and nonsensical Bob Hope walk-ons, but at its core, The Johnny Cash Show was an enlightened showcase for edgy talent, and a musical melting pot. Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Neil Young, and Bill Monroe all appeared. The highlight: the first appearance of Cash covering Kris Kristofferson’s “Sunday Morning Coming Down.” The single and the LP went to #1, and they made Kristofferson a star.
