The Gold Experience (CD)
Prince
Amoeba Review
Jeff Hunt 05/26/2010
The Gold Experience is the seventeenth studio album by Prince, issued by Warner Bros. in September of 1995. This is the height of the “Artist Formerly Known As” period, in which Prince instead that his name be replaced with an unpronounceable symbol; obviously the relationship between Prince and Warner Bros. was strained. In fact, the label didn’t want to release The Gold Experience at all, despite the fact that Prince considered the single “Gold” to have crossover appeal to rival that of Purple Rain. He was right. Unfortunately, the label/artist interaction was non-functional, and despite tremendous reviews, The Gold Experience failed to reach the audience it deserved.
