Christine & The Queens' Redcar les adorable étoiles is an album of rare beauty. These synth-driven tracks have a mystical, sweeping quality to them; they are lush, vivid, and cinematic, the ideal soundtrack to an '80s fantasy movie. The songs are immersive and all-consuming, filled with the highest highs and the lowest lows. Maybe that's fitting for an album on which Chris sheds his old identity and takes on the Gainsbourg-esque identity of the titular Redcar. As Redcar, he sings of love, lust, and loss--all grand themes that add to the operatic nature of this stunner of an album.
