Bad stuff happens: breaking your foot, breaking up with your partner of eleven years, doing both at basically the same time. Fortunately for fans of gorgeous, vulnerable songwriting, Alex Toth decided to channel his pain into the excellent Practice Magic And Seek Professional Help. Stuck at home, Toth worked with his pal Kimbra to bring the songs to life, creating an irresistible fusion of sunshine-soaked Beach Boys harmonies with Arthur Russell style danceable wackiness. The result is this raw, devastating (yet devastatingly lovely) meditation on the blossoming of hope in the midst of desolation. It just might make you believe in magic.
