Paranoid (CD)
Black Sabbath
Amoeba Review
Jeff Hunt 06/11/2010
Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin were in the same predicament. They were the foremost of the plodding, post-Clapton bunch, wallowing in sludgy blues progressions and occult imagery; the critics hated them; disaffected teenaged boys couldn’t get enough. Paranoid was Sabbath’s second album, and it was released a mere seven months after their eponymous debut. It’s an appreciable refinement of an already unique sound, and rock ‘n’ roll still reverberates with classics like “War Pigs,” the title track, and “Iron Man.” Paranoid went to #1 in the UK, and garnered the group attention in the US, and it remains one of the most essential heavy-metal albums of all time.
