Amoeba Review

Kelela's new avatar is an album of rare beauty. Kelela's influences are eclectic, her sound innovative. Elements of indie rock, shoegaze, dream pop, grunge, R&B, and Hyperdub-style atmospheric electronica are woven throughout new avatar, with Kelela's chameleon-like sense of songcraft shining in every genre. She sings about the experience of bearing witness to cruelty, about finding solace despite (or perhaps through) confronting the world's current smorgasbord of horror, and about not letting joy and wonder disappear in the midst of it all. A.K. Paul, Foushée, and PinkPantheress make appearances. A gorgeous, moving, much-needed album.
