Aspiring journalist Adam White (Montgomery Clift) would take the worst kind of career foothold, and that's what he got when his dismissive new small-town editor boss (Robert Ryan) handed him the advice-to-the-lovelorn column. Personally torn up by his new correspondents' issues, he'll have cause to regret taking a face-to-face with one unhappy spouse (Maureen Stapleton).
