International (LP)
Saint Etienne
Amoeba Review
Saint Etienne leaves fans with one last gift, the exceptional International. The band aren't calling it quits, per se, but they have declared that this euphoric album packed with dancefloor bliss will be their final new recording. If last year's The Night was a dreamlike, ambient exploration of the hazy hours just before dawn, then International feels like the crescendo of a night at the club, with irresistible electronic melodies and exhilarating choruses. Some of the best and brightest in dance and indie contribute to the proceedings, with appearances from Tom Rowlands of the Chemical Brothers, Jez Williams of Doves, Tim Powell of Xenomania, Nick Heyward, Erol Alkan, Janet Planet of Confidence Man, Paul Hartnoll of Orbital, and Vince Clarke.
