Gentle Grip (CD)
Public Practice
Amoeba Review
New York's Public Practice channels '70s sounds of disco, funk and New Wave on their debut full-length, occasionally sounding like Blondie – if you can imagine them with decidedly more talky vocals. “My Head” melds some reggae syncopation into its lo-fi disco-rock arrangement, while the quirky “Disposable” alternates between gritty angular rock and a shuffling melodic verse. “Compromised” is poppier and New Wave-ish, and also evokes the spastic energy of indie bands like Franz Ferdinand or The Futureheads. There's a lot to take in here and all of it is interesting
