Water From Your Eyes fuses art rock, angular post-punk, and chamber pop on their excellent Everyone's Crushed Out. The songs are smart and sometimes silly, experimental and edgy. The biting lyrics work hand-in-hand with the intense, uneasy guitar work, creating a driving sense of urgency even as they sometimes descend into dada-esque, intentional absurdity. Sometimes the band moves into a mode of gentle melancholy, with keening strings and lonesome vocals; these feel like the sort of songs you sing to yourself to keep yourself company in the dark. And can't we all use some of that? Everyone's Crushed Out is eclectic and experimental, but it also feels warm, familiar, and vital.
