Everlasting Hitman - Biography

By Eric Brightwell

Everlasting Hitman was one of the earliest New Orleanian bounce artists and the second to release a single on a label. Floyd Blount discovered performing at one of New Oreleans’s  many amateur gong shows. After TT Tucker (the Godfather of Bounce) finished, Blount, as Everlasting Hitman took the spotlight performing to an audience that included Big Boy Records founder Chuck Temple and former Ninja Crew member, Sporty T.

In 1992, the seventeen-year-old Hitman’s first single, “Bounce! Baby Bounce!,” was released on Mr. Tee Records. Though simple as all bounce, it has proven to be one the genre’s enduringly popular classics, largely due to the expert DJing of Everlasting Hitman’s DJ, Tyrone “Polo” Alexander, a childhood friend of Blount’s and fellow resident of the St. Thomas projects.  It was engineered by J. “Diamond” Washington, who was also behind the west bank classic, “What the Fellas Be Yellin' (Marrero).”

It wasn’t until 1995 that Everlasting Hitman recorded a follow-up, the "Work That Back/Holla If You Hear Me" cassingle on the seminal west bank label, Mobo Records. Mobo’s VP and co-owner Kenneth Taylor described him as an inspirational figure for the label but his life was cut short when the 21-year-old was shot and killed on February 3rd, 1996 in the Fisher Project in Algiers.

Though his musical output was limited to only two singles during his lifetime, his impact was huge and he’s been named as an influence by the Bounce King, DJ Jubilee, as well as nationally well-known rapper, Juvenile.
