Tindersticks' new album Distractions is minimalist and hushed in a way that seems designed to reflect the pandemic lockdown. Yet Stuart Staples was already contemplating a different sound before 2020, so perhaps it was a kind of premonition. "I Imagine You" is ghostly and meditative with spoken word vocals, and "A Man Needs A Maid" is a bluesy whisper. The group's soundtrack experience feels relevant to these soft, atmospheric songs. "You'll Have To Scream Louder" stands out for its jazzy, jangly guitar and sense of groove.
