De La Soul's Cabin In The Sky is a smart, feel-good, absolutely delightful album. It's the first release since the 2023 death of member Trugoy the Dove and that loss informs the proceedings. (There's the occasional bittersweet edge but what packs the hardest punch is a sense of belief and hope for something else in the hereafter.) This is an album imbued with beauty and goodness in the face of hard times, whether that's in the lyrics themselves or the lush, eternal summer-style beats. Production nods go to DJ Premier, Super Dave, and Pete Rock with appearances from Black Thought, Q-Tip, Killer Mike, Yukimi (Little Dragon), Common, Nas, Bilal, Slick Rick and a whole host of other talented voices.
