Outsider folk icon and artist Michael Hurley passed away in April of 2025, leaving his many fans with a final album, Broken Homes & Gardens. The singer-songwriter/cartoonist and painter was known for his clever and surreal lyrics featuring his cartoon characters and alter ego Snock. Recorded with the same team as his 2021 album, The Time of the Foxgloves -- Kati Claborn and Luke Ydstei of The Hackles and engineer Brian Bovenizer -- his final album characteristically features new versions of older favorites like the toe-tapping country/blues song, "Indian Chiefs & Hula Girls," alongside new ones like the gentle and quirky "Fava." It's a charming and wistful farewell from this one-of-a-kind artist.
