Chattanooga, TN-based Mon Rovia writes music to heal, to connect, to delight. His debut album Bloodline is charming Afro-Appalachian indie folk that feels homey, empathetic, and evocative. Mon Rovia sings of picking huckleberries, longing to find joy in the midst of hard times, and discovering hope in community. Born into Liberia's civil war, he was rescued by missionaries who helped him escape life as a child soldier, after which he bounced from place to place before being adopted and brought to the US where he grew up as a Black child in a white family. These moments underlie the songs in Bloodline, a quietly powerful album that showcases a fascinating new voice in folk music.
