Cost Of Living Adjustment [Tangerine Vinyl] (LP)

Cola's Cost Of Living Adjustment has to be one of the most satisfying post-punk albums of the year so far. The Montreal trio makes smart, somewhat deadpan art rock that's razor sharp and quite beautiful. These are songs that catch at the heart without feeling downbeat; this is an album you can get lost in for a wistful yet pleasant three-quarters of an hour. Fans of Australian post-punk and indie acts like the late great The Goon Sax and the legendary The Go-Betweens will dig this.

Are You Shpongled? (LP)

Take a trip back to 1998, to the roots of the psybient movement on the classic Are You Shpongled? , the debut release from the UK electro pioneers Shpongle. Trance innovators Simon Posford and Raja Ram take trance to faraway lands, forging a new branch of the electronic family tree. From dancy beats to hypnotic flute interludes and mindbending atmospheric oddities, Are You Shpongled? will bring you on an otherworldly aural odyssey.

Self-assured and spectacular, Blizzard is the debut from Irish indie folk artist Dove Ellis. This is no understated, slow burn folk album: Dove Ellis traffics in life's big emotions and in suitably big, bold songwriting. He plays with crescendos and moments of stillness, arranges woodwinds and horns to emulate traditional Irish folk sounds, creates tension and release with explosive guitars and brisk piano. Fans of Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, and grandiose, heartfelt songwriting will dig this one.

Prog rock fans, take heed. '70s prog darlings Pavlov's Dog are back with the wonderful Wonderlust . These new original songs are epic and grandiose, dark and melancholic, jazzy and cool. There are also moments of rock 'n' roll rambunctiousness, with lovely violins and folksy elements — see lead single "Jet Black Cadillac." This is an inventive and exciting album that'll thrill fans in the market for smart, classic, eclectic progressive rock.

R Is For Rocket [Coke Bottle Clear Vinyl] (LP)

LA quartet Rocket make quite the impression with their stunning debut album, R Is For Rocket . The band writes noisy, compelling, painfully beautiful songs that will have your heart in your throat. Think My Bloody Valentine if they decided to make a punk rock record. This fuzzed out, hypnotic album is one of the best things you'll hear this year.

In the mid-2000s, Austin indie pop darlings Voxtrot burst onto the scene, releasing a debut album in 2007 before disbanding in 2010. Fast forward to 2026, and Voxtrot is back with their long (LONG) awaited return album, Dreamers in Exile . Possibly more of a reboot than a follow-up, Dreamers is full of catchy pop hooks held aloft by singer-guitarist Ramesh Srivastava’s voice, which hasn’t aged a day. With a style that varies from Beatlesque bedroom pop to the ‘80s new-wave inspired title track, Voxtrot have re-entered the chat in a big way.

Loukeman's SD-3 is one of the liveliest, most joyous electronic releases of the year. Ryan Bingham's latest album sits nicely in the tradition of rootsy, restless Americana. They Call Us The Lucky Ones is for endless highways and lonely country roads, an exploration of the dreams we've been sold, the longing for connection, and the search for home. These tales of love and loss, drifters and outsiders, are perfectly suited for Bingham's gruff voice. An album that feels urgent yet timeless, melancholic yet hopeful.

Recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, arranged by Pulitzer- and Grammy-winning contemporary classical artist and composer Caroline Shaw, and with a cast of collaborators including Bjork, Yves Tumor, fado singer Carminho, flamenco singer Estrella Morente, Spanish singer/composer Sílvia Pérez Cruz, and American regional Mexican music trio Yahritza y su Esencia, you know this album's going to be special. Rosalía sings of faith and heartbreak, with lyrics in her native Spanish and Catalan, plus Arabic, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, Portuguese, Sicilian, and Ukrainian. Unexpected, soaring, and stirring, this is the cinematic modern-classical-meets-experimental-pop-with-religious-undertones album of your dreams.
