The Horrors are an English rock band that combine post-punk, goth, and shoegaze. Faris Badwan, Rhys Webb, Tom Cowan, Joshua Hayward, and Joseph Spurgeon formed the band in 2005. They released their debut album, Strange House, in 2007 and appeared on the cover of NME that same year. Their second album, Primary Colours (XL Recordings, 2009), was produced by Geoff Barrow of Portishead, Craig Silvey, and video director Chris Cunningham. Primary Colours revealed a shift for the band, featuring less of the gothic and punk influences found on Strange House and more of a droning, shoegaze sound. Primary Colours was widely praised by critics, was nominated for the 2009 Mercury Prize, and reached #25 on the UK Albums Chart.
