The Big Pink is a British rock band who released their debut album, A Brief History of Love (4AD), in September 2009 to much critical acclaim.
The Big Pink is the creation of Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell, two musicians from London. Cordell is the founder and owner of Merok Records, which was an early label home for Kalxons, Crystal Castles, and Titus Andronicus. Furze was the guitarist for Alec Empire and Panic DHH and ran the Hate Channel record label with Cordell before forming the band. They began making music together in 2007, releasing their first 7", Too Young To Love, as a limited edition on House Anxiety in October 2008. The Big Pink signed to 4AD in February 2009 and won the Philip Hall Radar Award for best new act at the NME Shockwave Awards shortly thereafter.
Although the core of The Big Pink is Furze (vocals, guitar) and Cordell (programming, keyboards, vocals), they have an ever-evolving line-up which currently includes drummer Akiko Matsuura (Comanechi, Pre) and bassist Leopold Ross. They have also been joined by Daniel O’Sullivan (Sunn O))), Guapo), Valentine Fillol Cordier, and Jo Apps.
The Big Pink has toured with TV On The Radio and Muse, played at the 2010 Coachella Music Festival, and is slated to perform at Lollapalooza 2010 and Reading Festival 2010.
