Created by Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) and Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), this postmodern horror comedy focuses on a group of young people (Kristen Connolly, The Happening; Chris Hemsworth, The Avengers; Anna Hutchison, Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior; Fran Kranz, Dollhouse; and Jesse Williams, Brooklyn's Finest) whose vacation at a secluded mountain cabin suddenly turns into a brutal fight for survival.

The initial attacks suggest a menace not dissimilar from the horrors found in pictures like The Evil Dead or Friday the 13th - in this case, the monsters are a pain-loving tribe of zombie frontierspeople. However, as the body count rises, the survivors begin to suspect the influence of a far more insidious behind-the-scenes presence, one whose actions mask darker and more complex intentions.

The Cabin in the Woods also features a talented ensemble cast that includes Bradley Whitford, Richard Jenkins, Brian White, and Amy Acker.
