The Age Of Everything (CD)
Johnny Marr
Amoeba Review
Johnny Marr's The Age of Everything hits the spot. Urgent post-punk guitars meet hook-heavy choruses, while beneath it all, strong emotional currents swirl and tug at the listener. This is one of Marr's very best records; it feels at once timeless in that "this would've been a John Peel favorite" way and timely in the album title's nod to our constant state of overwhelm. But there's another side to both the album's title and its thematic elements: if it seems we're constantly barraged by "everything," maybe, on the flip side, "everything" is also possible? This is a cathartic, moving, enjoyable listen from one of the greatest to ever do it.
