Teaser & The Firecat (CD)
Cat Stevens

Amoeba Review

Teaser And The Firecat is Cat Stevens’ fourth release and contains some his finest and most memorable work. The album opens with the feel-good tune “The Wind,” and Stevens’ knack for writing sweet and poignant songs that you can’t help but sing along to doesn’t end there—“Rubylove” and “If I Laugh” follow and are as strong as the first track. There is a looser vibe to this album compared to his previous Tea For The Tillerman, particularly on songs like “Tuesday’s Dead,” which has a rollicking, free feel. While the material here may take a bit more thought and commitment on the listener’s part, once you dedicate yourself to it, the album reveals itself as deeply profound: Stevens starts to tap into more of his philosophical beliefs, something that he would later dedicate himself to. Teaser And The Firecat may not contain the back-to-back hits of Stevens’ previous releases, but it proves to be quite the rewarding listen.
