Deftones' private music is a thing of brutal beauty. "my mind is a mountain" seethes with underlying tension, erupting into blistering choruses alternating with moments so exquisite, your heart will be in your throat. The gripping "milk of the madonna" comes barrelling straight at the listener from the very first notes and doesn't relent. And those are just a couple highlights from an album that already feels like a classic. Few bands have Deftones' ability to balance rage, melancholy, and a brooding sense of the sublime...and they've done it again.
