Amoeba Review

Recorded around the same time as the band’s legendary Music Has The Right To Children, Peel Session finds Boards of Canada performing a 4 song set for John Peel’s BBC1 show. Released in 1998, the original EP was quickly scrubbed of the set’s finale in “XYZ” due to a sample licensing issues, depriving electronica fans everywhere of the eight minute fantasia: a rhythmic wonder full of heavily manipulated breakbeats and plenty of synth bloops and bleeps over droning, ambient chords of bliss. Until now, that is, as Warp records has reissued and repackaged the EP with long-missing “XYZ” intact.
