Noble And Godlike In Ruin (CD)
Deerhoof
Amoeba Review
The now legendary Deerhoof are at their best on the wonderfully named Noble and Godlike in Ruin. The title hints at the album's sound: chaotic and cathartic yet ebullient and optimistic. Birdsong floats above gentle, slightly askew ambient before growing into an indie-meets-free-jazz crescendo. Glitchy electronics create simmering tensions, '60s sunshine pop goes off-kilter before working its way into a hardcore noise explosion. Saul Williams lends his voice to a track. As always, nobody does it like Deerhoof who continue to delight and surprise with Noble and Godlike.
