Natural [Green Vinyl] (LP)
Softee
Amoeba Review
Brooklyn-based Softee's Natural is one of the best left-of-the-center pop albums of the year. These songs are smart and slick, with a disco sheen over a sly, subversive attitude. "Isn't Enough" is a bittersweet goodbye, with R&B-influenced vocals over a dreampop backing track. "Grief" is a woozy, downbeat track about relationships that need to stay in the past, and the text messages that bring their ghosts back into your life. "Red Light Green Light" is a stardust-specked ode to impossible love and trust funds, with disco and house elements that make it dancefloor-ready. Natural should make Softee a star.
