Lee Mendelson Film Productions is a Bay Area-based production studio founded by producer Lee Mendelson in 1963. The studio is best known for the Peanuts animated film productions (including A Charlie Brown Christmas, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, A Boy Named Charlie Brown, and many others), Garfield, and other documentary and live productions. Lee’s favorite song was Vince Guaraldi’s “Cast Your Fate to the Wind,” which Lee was listening to while crossing the Golden Gate Bridge en route to his first meeting with Charles Schulz. Lee called up Vince (who was also a Bay Area native) and asked him to score the first Peanuts Television programs. The rest is history. Along with Bill Melendez (animator), Mendelson, Schulz, and Guaraldi worked together for the rest of each of their lives on Peanuts.
