About Strictly Prohibited:
Strictly Prohibited is a celebration of Jamaican rap bootleg 45’s, brought to you by Jerry Nice and Justin Boo. This exclusive book (limited to 100 copies) explores the various labels that have become notorious within this vinyl subculture, including the heavy-hitters like Propaine and Dagger Productions, as well as some of the more obscure one-off releases.
Through every visible scratch or aggressive scribble on the labels, each one of these records has a story to tell. Whether used for jukeboxes or sound systems across Jamaica, it’s easy to see that each 45 within these pages was loved. Strictly Prohibited is as much a celebration of these labels and artists, as it is their journey along the way.
This is by no means an attempt to catalog every rap record that was bootlegged in Jamaica, but more of a physical representation of a majority of the incredibly designed labels, and a reflection of some of the artists and songs of the time (both popular and underground).
