Dan's Boogie (LP)
Destroyer
Amoeba Review
Destroyer's Dan's Boogie is an absolute delight. Dan Bejar swims from genre to genre: expect '60s pop melodies, the occasional heavy riff, Serge Gainsbourgesque lounge vibes, blissful trip-hop-meets-tropicalia. Basically, expect the unexpected...just know you'll be charmed. "Hydroplaning Off the Edge of the World" finds Bejar channeling a cooky mid-century crooner, the vocals moving from woozy poetics to knife-sharp lacerations. Featuring dual vocals from Bejar and Five, "Bologna" is thoroughly entrancing, deliriously wistful and heartbreakingly beautiful. Dan's Boogie opens up the possibilities of music and thus life, which just feels like something we all desperately need right now.
