In the number slot of this new Top 20 hip-hop album releases chart (video version), that spans album releases from the several weeks, is both the CD and vinyl versions of the late J Dilla's album Ruff Draft: Dilla's Mix / aka Dilla's Mix The Instrumentals LP/vinyl also on CD (PayDay). The vinyl version arrived into Amoeba on Friday (June 8th) following the 2CD version that dropped a few weeks previously.  Over an hour in length the album is the latest reissue version of Dilla’s album that was originally released back in 2003 as a ten track EP (reportedly recorded within a week). Then four years later following his tragic death, it was reissued as a full length expanded 2CD remastered album as the 2007 release via Stones Throw that most are familiar with. For more background on this album and Dilla himself check out the wonderful video below: J Dilla: Ruff Draft Tribute video from the Ruff Draft release/tribute party in Toronto 2007 featuring interviews with Frank-N-Dank and J.Rocc.

7: Saweetie High Maintenance (Warner Brothers)

Since its major label release a few weeks ago this Bay Area by way of LA album by Saweetie has been generating a lot of interest, even if it is one of the shortest albums of the year. Included on this major label debut album entitled High Maintenance (Warner) is the incredibly popular debut single "Icy Grl" (video above) that showcases rising female rap star Saweetie's flow and style. Multi-talented the artist born Diamonté Harper is not only a rapper but also a songwriter, actress, and designer. Now based in Los Angeles Saweetie was born in Santa Clara. Her relatively rapid rise to fame followed a chance meeting with music industry veteran Max Gousse (Beyoncé, Solange, YG, etc) that resulted in the recording of "Icy Grl." That supposed one-off single blew up upon its late 2017 release and led to the recording and recent release of this album. High Maintenance is just nine short but intense songs clocking in at 22 minutes total. In addition to "Icy Grl" other album tracks include "Agua," "23," "Respect" and the already popular track "B.A.N."
