Lots of videos in this week's hip-hop rap up including KALX DJ/Amoeba Music employee at the Berkeley store E-Lit doing a nice overview of the new and recent CD and LP hip-hop (and related) releases to arrive in store lately and make up the two new top five hip-hop charts below - divided into CD and vinyl sections since there is so much more vinyl coming out these days - new and reissues like the 180 Gram reissue of Too $hort's 1980's classic Born To Mack. But first we send out our condolences to the family of A$AP Yams (pictured above and left with the A$AP crew) who died over this past weekend.

One of the founding members of New York City's very successful A$AP Mob collective it was first widely rumored via social media on Sunday that he had passed away as the result of a drug overdose. However associates of his in the collective insisted that those rumors were untrue and totally unfounded. As of now no official cause of death is known but what is known is that Yams' roommate in Brooklyn called 911 after finding laying down unconscious.

Joey Bada$$ - who is this week's number one chart entry (CD and vinyl) with his new debut album B4.DA.$$  recently got a lot of a lot of publicity following a widely shared pic of First Daughter Malia Obama wearing his Pro Era's crew t-shirt design. As a result Joey believes that his phone has been tapped by the powers at the White House (check out his interview on Sway In The Morning this week talking on his suspicions). But back to the music; to date Joey, who has unleashed a series of popular mix tapes, may only be 20 years of age but his anticipated brand new debut album B4.DA.$$ went straight to the top of the charts upon its release on Tuesday this week in both CD and vinyl formats (see that separate chart below). As accurately described  in his Amoeba website review Bada$$ has already built a strong fanbase and rep for his "rhyming, his ear for production and most importantly his penchant for the boom-bap rap era" and going on to not how this new official debut album of Joey's "seems to ride this fine line of imitation and modern innovation" with beats care of DJ Premier, Statik Selektah, The Roots, and the late great Dilla. Sure it's a long way off but you can expect to see this album show up on a lot of "Best of 2015" lists. E-Lit discusses the album and artist in a video below. Other videos below include a live television performance by Joey Bada$$ along with BJ The Chicago Kid on the Jimmy Fallon show last week when they did the new album track "Like Me," the audio-only music video for Lupe Fiasco's new album track "They Resurrect Over New" that features Ab-Soul and Troi off Tetsuo & Youth, and Sadat X track "On Fire" that features guest spots from both Cormega and Lanelle Tyler and is directed by Eye Grustle, 99 Ways Ent., and The Embassy Elite. Then there's the young duo of Rae Sremmurd, who remind me of Kriss Kross in a way, and their single "Up Like Trump." Plus there's a video below that is not related to anything on this week's charts but maybe next week after it is released and that is Mello Music artist Drew Dave's "Full Circle" instrumental track from his all instrumental album SynthBASED. That video is directed by Jay Brown. Peep the E-Lit at Amoeba Berkeley video for a run-down of all of the new hip-hop releases at Amoeba.
