Abyss (CD)
Anika
Amoeba Review
The inimitable Anika returns with Abyss. You might as well file it under "Staring Into the....." Written in response to her feelings of confusion, frustration and anger at the world, the music is unsettling, urgent, and raw. Anika's sound is just inherently cool, effortlessly fusing krautrock, post-punk, and a Velvet Underground-esque experimentalism, but on this record, she gets deep under the skin. Because these songs were meant to awaken something in the listener, to reconnect the disconnected to a world of living, breathing flesh and feeling. Abyss is about turmoil and release, fracturing and finding the way toward feeling part of the whole again.
